What is Pregnancy Urine Test?
Urine pregnancy test is done to know if a woman is pregnant. This test measures the levels human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) also known as pregnancy hormone, present in the urine of a pregnant woman. It is detectable in the urine after 10-11 days of conception. hCG hormone is secreted by the placental cells and its levels keep on increasing until10-12 weeks of pregnancy. In case the test results are negative, the patient will undergo further investigations to know the cause for amenorrhea. Drugs such as diuretics and antihistamines can give false negative results. Drugs such as hypnotics and tranquilizers can give false positive results.
